3 Quick Fixes for the Holidays

Emergency Services

“Honey, will you pleeeeease fix that awful squeaking door before our family comes over for Christmas Eve? We have to make them think that our home is perfect,” said every wife ever to her unwilling husband. He hesitantly replies, “Anything for you dear.” While hopefully this isn’t what your marriage looks like, Fix My House can help you out with those quick fixes around the holidays.

The holiday season should be a time of relaxation and enjoyment. It can be difficult to enjoy when there are little things around the house that have been bothering you for months or even years. Fix My House is here to help you knock some of those annoyances out of the way before it’s too late. Here are our quick fixes for the holidays!

Quick Fix 1: Squeaky Doors

There’s a door in every house that comes with a bit of a noise. Some are worse than others but they are all annoying. There are a few ways to fix a squeaky door. You could use WD-40 and spray the lubricant into the hinges and move the door back and forth to work it in. You could also use petroleum jelly with a similar action. If neither of those work, you can try lifting the hinge pins about halfway out and lubricating them with three-in-one
oil. One of these should solve that awful squeaking door.

Quick Fix 2: Peeling Wallpaper

If you bought your house when wallpaper was still a good idea, there’s a chance that it is beginning to come up a bit from the wall. The best way to fix peeling wallpaper is to buy some wallpaper paste, rub some of it onto a piece of writing paper, then rub the paper against the under section of the peeling portion and press the wallpaper against the wall. You can then slide the piece of writing paper from underneath and smooth out any bubbles with a clean cloth. Your peeling walls will no longer be an issue!

Quick Fix 3: Stained Tub

Every so often, your tub may get a stain that doesn’t seem to come out easily. We don’t want to know how it got there but we would love to tell you how to get it out. What you can do is combine an equivalent amount of cream of tartar and baking soda with enough lemon juice to make a paste like substance. You can then rub that paste into the stain with your hands or with a cloth. You will want to let it sit for a half hour at least and then rinse it well with water. That should get the stain right out!
